American Express Temporarily Suspends Credit Card Applications – March 2025

Published on

American Express has temporarily paused accepting new credit card applications in India, a move that has gained widespread attention on social media. Many users have reached out to customer support seeking confirmation and clarity on the duration of this suspension. While the company has indeed stopped new applications, it is a temporary measure, not a permanent decision, despite some speculation.

As a premium credit card issuer in India with a limited range of products, the exact reason for this pause has not been officially disclosed. However, it is believed that the suspension may be related to internal changes in their offerings and operational processes.

Reports also suggest that American Express may be shifting its preferred hotel partnership from Taj Hotels to Postcard Hotels, indicating a potential revamp of its benefits and services.

The duration of this suspension remains unclear, with some estimates suggesting it could last for at least six months. However, given American Express’s strong foothold in the premium credit card market, an extended pause is unlikely. It is anticipated that the company may resume accepting applications within a month, potentially with updated offerings or revised policies.

In the meantime, existing cardholders can continue using their cards without any disruption.
