SBI Credit Card Updates: No Reward Points for Gaming From December 2024

Published on

The State Bank of India (SBI) has recently modified its rewards program by discontinuing the allocation of Reward Points for transactions made on digital gaming platforms and with merchants. This update follows a similar change made in June 2024, when SBI stopped offering Reward Points for transactions linked to government services on several of its credit cards. The latest adjustments, effective through December 2024, reflect a continuing trend of restricting Reward Points. Customers who frequently use digital gaming services will be particularly impacted, as they will no longer earn points on these purchases.

Affected SBI Credit Cards

The following popular SBI Credit Cards will no longer accumulate Reward Points for transactions with digital gaming platforms and merchants:

  • AURUM
  • SBI Card ELITE
  • SBI Card Pulse
  • SimplyCLICK SBI Card
  • SBI Card PRIME
  • SBI Card Platinum
  • SimplySAVE SBI Card
  • SHAURYA SELECT SBI Card

Effective December 2024, SBI has halted its Reward Points program for transactions tied to digital gaming services, specifically those under Merchant Category Code 7994. This change will impact users who engage in online gaming and have come to rely on earning rewards from these transactions.

This decision comes after a prior shift regarding government service transactions and reflects a broader trend of limiting Reward Points eligibility. Customers should remain aware of these changes to assess their impact on spending habits related to digital gaming. Notably, the SBI Cashback card remains an exception, continuing to offer Reward Points for relevant online transactions.
