HDFC Global Value Program (GVP): Rewards on International Spends

Published on

The Global Value Program (GVP) is a service provided by HDFC Bank, enabling its credit cardholders to enjoy rewards and exclusive deals on international transactions. To participate, cardholders must register for the program by paying a joining or renewal fee of ₹199, with the membership automatically renewed annually. Upon registration, cardholders can earn cashback on international purchases along with other benefits. For more details on the program, its features, and terms and conditions, continue reading.

Note: HDFC Bank has currently discontinued this program.

Overview of the Global Value Program

The HDFC Global Value Program offers an opportunity for cardholders to earn rewards and save on international spending. Most HDFC retail credit cards are eligible, and users can activate the program by paying the joining/annual membership fee. Here’s a summary of the key features and benefits:

Key Features & Benefits

  • Annual Fee: ₹199 + applicable GST.
  • Activation Benefit: Receive 500 bonus Reward Points upon completing your first international transaction (valid only in the first year).
  • Cashback: Earn 1% cashback on all international transactions, capped at ₹1,000 per statement cycle.
  • Milestone Benefit: Spend ₹1,50,000 or more annually on international transactions to receive a travel voucher worth ₹2,000 (redeemable via Yatra, MakeMyTrip, ClearTrip, or EaseMyTrip).

How to Register for the Program

HDFC Bank Credit Cardholders can activate the Global Value Program through the following methods:

Contact Customer Care: Call HDFC Bank customer support to request activation. The team will confirm your understanding of the terms and conditions before proceeding. Activation may take up to 5 business days, and confirmation will be sent via SMS/email.

Via Mail: You can also request activation by email.

The program can be activated on most HDFC cards, including business cards like BizPower and BizBlack.

Terms & Conditions

  • Applicable only to retail and business credit cards (not corporate or commercial cards).
  • Excludes certain transactions such as cash withdrawal, balance transfer, and cash-on-call.
  • Cannot be combined with other ongoing HDFC Credit Card offers.
  • Spending across multiple HDFC cards cannot be combined for milestone benefits.
  • Membership renews automatically each year unless canceled by the cardholder.
  • HDFC Bank reserves the right to exclude any cardholder or merchant from the program without prior notice.
  • Canceled or refunded transactions are not eligible for rewards.
  • Offer is valid only for Indian residents holding HDFC Bank Credit Cards.

Is the GVP Worth It?

The program is ideal for frequent international spenders, offering substantial rewards for a nominal annual fee of ₹199. However, for infrequent international transactions, it may not provide significant value. Premium cardholders with lower forex markup charges (e.g., HDFC Regalia Gold, Diners Club Black Metal, or Infinia) may find this program especially beneficial, as it offsets forex charges with 1% cashback (capped at ₹1,000 per statement cycle).

Before opting for the program, calculate your potential savings to determine whether it aligns with your spending habits.
